Rockthrow Songs and
Big Lever/Bosso

Many Rocthrow songs have a Big Lever or Bosso connection. In fact on the latest CD, "Big Hits of Big Lever Brought to You by Bosso" (Spring 2007), all the songs have one link or another, though some are more direct than others. For instance, "Drive Safe" is the story of a hithchhiker passing through Mud Flap County itself. "Shop'Til Ya Drop" is set in Bossdale's, and "Ruby of the West" in Mud Flap County; "Super Bowl Sunday" is sponsored by Bosso and the "Bosso Beer" jingle is just a cheap lampoon of the real one. Not to mention "Lazy Chair." Even "Favorite Cow" (from the second Rockthrow CD, "Desperate Act of the Powerless") features an allusion to "the Big Lever butcher," with grisly effect, I might add. Actually, as far as I can tell Rockthrow is the only band that can boast of this many songs that are set in or somehow associated with Big Lever, Wyoming or the Bosso company. Well, you can look if you want. (To hear audio clips of Rockthrow songs click the link to CD Baby. All songs are available on Apple iTunes, Groupie Tunes and other services. In Brief

Rockthrow is Kevin Brixius, Jamie Farnum and Theresa Horan. Together they have recorded four discs (on three albums) of Brixius' songs, working with Ben Durrant at Crazy Beast Studio in Minneapolis. Playing live, they all sing in varied combinations, and they employ a guitar, keyboard and Farnum's unique rhythm kit of cardboard box, storage tub kick and various cymbals. Recording, Brixius adds bass and more guitar, Farnum plays real drums, usually, and there are guest musicians like Jessy Greene, Scott Johnson, Bobb Fantauzzo and Javier Carrasco. Take your pick. It's really the songs that are their focus.

At Length

Once, long ago, over the course of a particular month I (1) turned 16, (2) got my first guitar, (3) started a Speech class at school, and (4) fell in love, in that order. It was a combination ripe for songwriting. Continued...
